CHETUMAL - Well, today we planned on blowing on down to Caye Caulker in Belize but things didn't work out quite the way we'd planned.  The first bus to Chetumal, which is the Mexican border crossing to Belize, was a 9:10 and because of a little snafu with not having enough cash we missed that bus.  The next bus was 10:30 but it was sold out so we purchased tickets for the 11:40.  It's a 5 hour ride to Chetumal from Playa del Carmen, so leaving at noon isn't ideal, but it's not the end of the world.  We could still make it across the border and out to Caye Caulker.  Or could we?

After getting breakfast we hit the bus station.  We were suprised to see our British friend Joff that we'd met on Isla Mujeres, and were more suprised to find out he was on the same bus to Chetumal!  Since our seats were on opposite ends of the bus was decided that we'd go straight away to the nearest bar in Chetumal to get caught up on what we'd been doing.  As Anna and I went to take our seats we realized there were no seats for us.  We'd been sold seats 43 and 44 but they didn't exist!!  and we got booted off the bus.  This was no good... after arguing and yelling with the ticket office, with the bus driver at my aid, we got on the 1:10 bus to Chetumal.  By now it was already 12:30 so another 40 minutes wasn't a big deal.  Joff said he'd wait outside at a pub and off the bus went.  Our bus finally came at 1:45 which put us quite a long time behind schedule... we decided to stay in Chetumal that night.

We didn't see Joff anywhere, which was understandable because the station was in the middle of nowhere, so we conceded defeat and headed for the town center to get a hotel.  We figured we might catch Joff in town but soon realized it was unlikely since Chetumal was so big.  Finally we found a hotel and when we were out for a walk, wouldn't you know it we ran into Joff!  So we got some beers... 8 beers for 12 bucks!!  and were able to get caught up afterall.
